Materials:

  • Dollar Store Clay Pots – 2.5” in diameter – Dollar Store
  • Acrylic Craft Paint – Yellow, Blue, Black, Metallic Silver
  • Wiggle Eyes – Dollar Store
  • Chenille Stems, Black – Dollar Store
  • Water Bottle Caps – Recycled
  • Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
  • Scissors
  • Paintbrush
  • Permanent Marker – Black

Instructions:

STEP ONE

Gather all materials and then remove the packaging and labels.  Basecoat the top of the 2.5” clay pots with yellow acrylic craft paint.  Let the paint dry and then apply a second coat, if necessary.

STEP TWO

Topcoat the rim of the clay pots with blue acrylic craft paint. Set aside to dry. Apply a second coat, if necessary.

STEP THREE

Basecoat the plastic water bottle caps with metallic silver acrylic craft paint.  Let the paint dry and then apply a second coat, if necessary.

STEP FOUR

Paint a band of black acrylic craft paint approximately 1” down from the top of the clay pot with a small flat paintbrush. Let the paint dry and then apply a second coat, if necessary.

STEP FIVE

Cut the black chenille stems into smaller sections with scissors. Insert into the drain hole at the top of the clay pot and secure with a glue gun and glue sticks. Style the Minion hair.

TIP: You can use liquid craft glue for this project, but you would have to wait for it to dry.

STEP SIX

Once dry, insert wiggle eyes into the silver painted plastic water bottle caps securing with a glue gun and glue sticks.

Attach one or two eyes to each Minion along the black band with a glue gun and glue sticks.

STEP SEVEN

Using a permanent black marker, draw on the Minions mouths, creating a variety of expressions. Then draw on the stitches around the rim of the clay pot to mimic the Minions overalls.

A great family fun craft activity to complete with the kiddos. Mix and match different sizes of clay pots, eyes and expressions to create Minions for hours of creative play.
